A gravity-fed drip system uses an elevated IBC tote as the reservoir, an adapter from the S60x6 outlet to standard drip tubing, and a filter to protect the emitters. Raising the tote about three feet provides enough pressure for a low-flow drip line across a home garden.

How gravity pressure works
Every foot of height gives you roughly 0.43 psi of pressure. Drip irrigation runs happily at low pressure — often under 15 psi — so even a modest stand delivers plenty. Raise the tote three to four feet and you have a working system with no pump.
The stand
A full tote weighs well over a ton, so the stand is not optional. Build a level platform from heavy timber or steel rated far above the load, on firm ground. When in doubt, over-build it — a collapsing tote is dangerous.
Plumbing the outlet
Work outward from the tote’s outlet:
- S60x6 buttress adapter to 3/4 in garden-hose or barbed fitting
- A ball valve as the master shutoff
- A 150-mesh screen or disc filter to protect emitters
- A pressure-compensating drip line or emitter tubing to the beds
Filtration is non-negotiable
Drip emitters clog on the tiniest grit. A simple inline screen filter after the valve saves hours of unclogging later. If you feed the tote from rainwater, add a first-flush diverter upstream too.
Tuning the flow
Because pressure drops as the tank empties, gravity drip is not perfectly even end to end. Use pressure-compensating emitters for uniformity, keep runs reasonably short, and top the tote up before it drains too low. For most gardens the slight variation is invisible in the harvest.
Winter and storage
Drain the system before the first freeze — tank, valve, filter and lines. Coil the tubing indoors and the whole setup will last many seasons on a reconditioned tote that cost a fraction of a purpose-built tank.
